Impact of the April 7 Earthquake [Update]
(Nippon Paper Group Resumes Operation)


We would like to inform you that Nippon Paper Group resumes operations suspended due to the earthquake centered off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture on April 7 at following mills:


􀁺 Nippon Paper Industries
- Hokkaido Mill – Asahikawa (Asahikawa, Hokkaido)
The mill has resumed operation from the evening of April 8.


􀁺 Nippon Daishowa Paperboard
- Akita Mill (Akita, Akita)
The mill has resumed operation since the morning of April 10.


􀁺 Kitakami Paper (Ichinoseki, Iwate)
The mill has resumed operation since the night of April 9.


In addition to the above, Nippon Paper Industries Iwanuma Mill (Iwanuma, Miyagi) has restarted continuous operation of one newsprint machine since April 11 after successful trial run in the morning April 10. Another newsprint machine at the Mill is under preparation to restart, as announced on April 6.


We are currently assessing the impact of this earthquake in conjunction with those already underway regarding the March 11 Earthquake, on the businesses and the consolidated financial results of Nippon Paper Group, Inc.
