Nippon Paper Industries Supports Local Governments in the Reconstruction of the Areas where Mills Damaged in the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake are located
— Relief funds to Ishinomaki City, Iwanuma City and Iwaki City —

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the victims of the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake and those who were affected by the earthquake.

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Yoshio Haga) suffered significant damage to three of its mills, namely Ishinomaki Mill (Ishinomaki, Miyagi), Iwanuma Mill, (Iwanuma, Miyagi), and Nakoso Mill (Iwaki, Fukushima), due to the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake and subsequent tsunami. The disaster also inflicted immense damage on the areas where these mills are located and on many people.

In parallel with the relief activities for the Group's employees, we undertook relief activities for the victims and areas affected by the earthquake, such as delivering relief supplies to the Disaster Recovery Division in the areas where the damaged mills were located just after they were hit by the earthquake. In addition, we have decided to release relief funds amounting to a total of 100 million yen, with the aim of providing direct support for full restoration in the areas where our affected mills are located, namely Ishinomaki City, Iwanuma City and Iwaki City.

We are focused on rapid recovery from the impact of the earthquake, and Nakoso Mill and Iwanuma Mill were fully restored by May 10 and May 11, respectively. At present, we are working to restore Ishinomaki Mill, which was directly hit by the tsunami, with the aim of restarting its operations as soon as possible. Furthermore, as a company living in harmony with the local community, we will continue actively supporting the full restoration of the affected areas.
