Tokyo, Japan, May 10, 2012 ---The Teijin Group announced today that New York-based Teijin Holdings USA, Inc., the group's holding company in the U.S., will provide reusable eco-bags made entirely with Teijin's recyclable polyester for the Japan Day Festival taking place in New York City's Central Park on Sunday, May 13.
Teijin will provide 700 eco-bags featuring cherry blossoms, the theme of this year's event, which will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Japan presenting the United States with cherry trees as a symbol of enduring friendship. The eco-bags will be used to package T-shirts that will be sold to raise funds for the planting of cherry trees in Central Park.
The eco-bags are made with Teijin's ECO CIRCLE FIBERS, chemically recycled fiber produced from used polyester products. At the end of their useful lives, the bags can be recycled by Teijin using the ECO CIRCLE closed-loop recycling system.
Teijin has been providing eco-bags for Japan Day since 2008.
Launched in 2007, Japan Day builds bridges of cultural understanding between the people of Japan and the United States. More than 30,000 people attended the festival last year to enjoy Japanese cultural performances and attractions.
About ECO CIRCLE
Developed by Teijin Fibers Limited, a Teijin Group subsidiary, ECO CIRCLE is a closed-loop recycling system for used polyester products. The system employs the world's first technology for chemical recycling, which chemically decomposes polyester for conversion into new polyester raw materials that offer purity comparable to those derived from petroleum. Teijin cooperates individually with over 150 registered apparel and sportswear manufacturers worldwide in a shared commitment to promoting progressive environmental activities for the development and manufacture of recyclable products, including the collection and recycling of these products at the end of their useful lives. Compared to developing polyester materials from petroleum, this repeatable recycling system significantly reduces energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
