Nippon Paper Group Announces Measures for Electric Power Supply and Demand This Summer
Utilization of Deemed Power Saving System Using the Surplus Power of the Yatsushiro Mill of Nippon Paper Industries, Co., Ltd.

Nippon Paper Group, Inc.

On June 12, 2012, Nippon Paper Group, Inc. (President: Yoshio Haga) executed agreements with Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (President: Makoto Yagi) and Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc. (President: Akira Chiba) regarding electric power supply and demand for the purpose of utilizing the Deemed Power Saving system (*), as a result of a request to save power to alleviate the concern regarding electric power shortages this summer.

Under the Deemed Power Saving system to be utilized this summer, Nippon Paper Group will use its in-house power generation facilities located at the Yatsushiro Mill of Nippon Paper Industries (Yatsushiro, Kumamoto), and transmit its surplus electricity of around 3MW from these facilities to the two electric power companies referred to above. The volume of electricity transmitted will be deemed to be the saved power of a total of 14 business sites of Nippon Paper Group in the areas served by Kansai Electric Power (seven business sites) and Shikoku Electric Power (seven business sites).

At the other business sites of Nippon Paper Group in areas served by other electric power companies (excluding Kansai Electric Power and Shikoku Electric Power), it is expected that Nippon Paper Group will be able to achieve the requested power saving targets by saving power and using in-house power generating facilities.

(*) Deemed Power Saving

Deemed Power Saving is a measure for making use of companies' in-house power generation indicated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in November 2011. Under the Deemed Power Saving system, a company can request that an electric power company requesting power saving purchase electricity, and deem the amount of electricity purchased to be saved power.
