NEC Provides Network Service Infrastructure Product for Telecommunications Carriers - Faster, more advanced communication services achieved -

*** For immediate use July 9, 2012

Tokyo, July 9, 2012 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) has begun sale of the NC7000-CC, a network service control infrastructure product with enhanced functions for telecommunications carriers.

The NC7000-CC is a service infrastructure product that processes network communication resources and management information through Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), the standard protocol for network control, and DIAMETER, the standard protocol for authentication and billing, without restrictions from the web and other such services.

This enhancement of the NC7000-CC features a service conflict judgment function based on the IMS Standard (*). This function selects the appropriate service to use from among a number of services that are automatically activated upon sending and receiving calls. It is equivalent to the Service Capability Interaction Manager (SCIM) defined in the international 3GPP IMS Standard. Achieving this function through a simplified set-up has eliminated the need to develop additional programs when changing existing service settings as new services are added.

When installed, the NC7000-CC becomes part of the network service’s platform system, together with the service bus infrastructure and the front- and back-end database servers. This system uses existing functions as shared parts, while allowing new web services to be launched by adding new functions, thereby accelerating the development of new communication services that integrate both telecommunication- and web-based services.

NEC has delivered the above-mentioned service platform system to NTT DOCOMO, INC. It will be used in “Koe-no-Takuhaibin™,” an SIP-based voicemail message distribution system, the “Disaster Message Board” service, a web-based voice file distribution service for use during disasters, and the “Cloud-based Translator Phone service,” a phone translation service that provides foreign language translations using voice recognition.

With the expansion of LTE and smartphones, new mobile services integrating the web and the cloud are in greater demand, and the need to provide next-generation high-speed communication services in a timely manner is increasing.

NEC aims to carry out product development as a solution provider that offers service platforms for telecommunications carriers and advanced communication services.

Notes:

(*) IMS Standard:

A communication method for providing multimedia services and integrating the public communication service where circuit switching, packet switch bases and other functions differ between the fixed landline network and the mobile phone network using IP technology and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), a protocol for Internet phones.
