Hino Motors Publishes 2012 CSR Report

Hino Motors, Ltd. (Hino) has published its 2012 CSR Report on the web in both English and Japanese. The report covers the initiatives Hino undertook in fiscal 2011 to fulfill its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Hino sees CSR as its fundamental approach for contributing to society, and works to integrate it into all of its business activities-the development, production, sales and service of commercial vehicles. At Hino, CSR is essential to realizing the corporate mission stated in the Hino Credo: "To make the world a better place to live by helping people and goods get to where they need to go - safely, economically and with environmental responsibility - while focusing on sustainable development."

The purpose of the 2012 CSR Report is to enhance communication with stakeholders by clearly disclosing the approaches, policies, and measures that Hino has adopted for putting the Hino Credo into practice for each type of stakeholder. Hino has been publishing CSR reports on the web after ending the printed edition in 2009, aiming to release even timelier information and to provide more detailed data and relevant reporting.

Overview of the 2012 CSR Report

1. Social Performance Section
This section of the report presents Hino's activities and approaches to initiatives aimed at fulfilling the Hino Credo in relation to its stakeholders, categorized as customers, employees, business partners, shareholders, and local communities around the world. The section includes a special feature on Hino's service skills competition for dealers, which is intended to improve vehicle-servicing capabilities for customers. Fiscal 2011 marked the 40th year that this annual event has been held in Japan. Another special feature covers Hino's initiatives to help with the recovery of areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, following up on the company's relief efforts reported in its 2011 CSR Report.

2. Environmental Performance Section
This year, Hino reorganized and improved the contents of this section in line with its 2015 Environmental Initiative Plan. In addition to newly updated data for fiscal 2011, the section features Hino's earnest efforts to protect the environment, including its approach to environmental conservation and systems for attaining it, progress in reducing CO₂ emissions and other indicators of environmental performance, and development of environmentally friendly vehicles. Furthermore, special features in the section describe the unique features of Hino's hybrid trucks and buses and the company's development of electric commercial vehicles.
