May 12, 2009 (Tokyo, Japan)—Acrodea, Inc. (CEO and President: Junya Tsutsumi), headquartered in Meguro-ku, Tokyo, Nippon Information Development Co., Ltd. (President: Kiyoshi Suzuki), headquartered in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Legend Applications, Inc. (President: Tsutomu Kubo), headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, and Information System Products Co., Ltd. (President: Toshiro Matsumura), headquartered in Nishi-ku, Yokohama, have reached an agreement today regarding the joint development of a platform to easily customize functions and designs of mobile telephones, and have completed a prototype for the platform.
The needs of individuals and businesses are finely divided and diversified today, as one can observe in the world of magazines, for example. Corporations offering products are consequently seeking ways to generate revenues under the small-lot, many-model reality they face. In the mobile telephone industry, Acrodea’s VIVID UI has enabled transfigurable appearances as content, and brought forth customizing services for screen designs that match user preferences. Customizing services for mobile phone functionality that match individual and business requirements, however, have achieved much less, because development costs are tremendously greater. The platform put forward by the four companies Acrodea, NID, Legend and ISP is based on Acrodea’s VIVID UI, improves on the functionality drawback, and thus facilitates customizing of function in addition to design for mobile phones. The solution allows development of customized handsets at an inexpensive cost for small lots and many models.
This platform is expected to address the rapidly emerging small-scale MVNOs and the corporate terminals that can address specialized business systems, both of whose customization requirements were previously impractical under the lot-size requirements. Since the portion of terminal applications customizable can be created with general-purpose technology, such as Ajax, system integrators and service providers will be able to develop on their own.
Going forward, Acrodea, NID, Legend and ISP intend to leverage these advantages in the development and commercialization of the platform.
Beginning May 13, the NID booth at the 12th Embedded Systems Expo (ESEC, http://www.esec.jp/en/) to be held at Tokyo Big Sight will demonstrate prototypes for consumer and business usage.
