Kobe, Japan - ASICS Corporation has made public the baseball spikes for Ichiro Suzuki of Seattle Mariners for 2008 season.
The shoes are design update of the ones he was wearing in 2007 season. They are ultra light shoe with titanium spike blades with new cushioning material Solyte midsole developed by Asics Institute of Sport Science. The shoe weighs 260g as light as the previous model.
Hajime Muto, senior manager of Baseball Marketing at Asics Corporation says "Ichiro received many awards including MLB All-Star Game, Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger Award with our spikes in 2007, and appreciates our effort to make his spikes lighter. The concept of the shoes remains same while we added a new design theme "stream" for 2008 model. I believe they are the lightest baseball spikes ever which can bear the abuse of top player like Ichiro."
ASICS has been sponsoring Ichiro with baseball spikes since 1995. ASICS also sponsors Japanese players in M.V.P. of MLB such as Hideki Okajima of Boston Red Sox and Tadahito Iguchi of San Diego Padres.
